Description and Responsibilities

The Production Manager will lead the department on a day to day basis with a focus on safety, quality, cost, delivery, and efficiency. Responsibilities will include:

  • Sets, standardizes, and monitors key process measures to improve efficiencies and reduce cost

  • Trains, manages, and retains a high performing work team in the packaging department to supply the necessary labor to efficiently meet the packaging schedules.

  • Establish and maintain performance standards, while providing coaching and mentoring to enhance individual and team performance.

  • Works jointly with operations planning group to develop the daily production schedule to efficiently meet customer orders, optimize labor, and minimize product changeovers.

  • Identifies labor needs to meet production schedules.

  • Responsible for all active participation and leadership of employee safety programs, along with environmental programs within the department and facility.

  • Analyzes workforce utilization, facility needs, and cleaning supplies and chemicals to ensure cheese packaging sanitation is being performed in the most cost effective manner possible.

  • Reviews the previous day’s production reports and current production schedule. Monitors long range production schedule.

  • Work with the maintenance department to plan and schedule repairs and preventative maintenance

  • Interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing employee issues and resolving problems.


The successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • Demonstrated drive and determination – will get tasks completed despite obstacles. Ownership of role. High energy level.

  • Decision Maker – needs to be decisive and capable of working off own initiative when the situation demands it.

  • People Management Skills / Communication Skills – Will be leading a team and therefore will be very good at communicating with, and motivating staff.

  • Mechanical Aptitude – will be responsible for plant improvements and problem solving on machinery.

  • Problem Solving Skills – needs an analytical approach to trouble-shooting, root cause analysis.

  • Strategic thinking – candidate needs to be capable of thinking about the “bigger picture”. Also considers and thinks through all options before choosing one.

  • Technical competence – ability to understand, in depth, both products and processes.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a Production Manager role
